Funding Support for International Clinical Experience Program

 

ELIGIBILITY CRITERIA

​

The funding support will be distributed to students who meet the specified eligibility criteria. Applicants may apply for second funding but will have to prove eligibility for additional criteria. The criteria are divided into major and minor. Applicants must meet all major criteria without exceptions to be considered eligible for funding. While meeting the minor criteria is not mandatory, they provide an applicant a competitive advantage when funding is limited.

3.1. Criteria for First Funding

Applicants must meet all major criteria to be considered eligible for funding. However, applicants must be advised that applying for funding and meeting all criteria does not mean funding is guaranteed and depends on the availability of funds.

 

3.1.1. Major Eligibility Criteria

 

Major criteria 1: The applicant must be a current student of Alfaisal University College of Medicine (including internship).

 

Major criteria 2: The applicant must not have any recorded misconduct with the College of Medicine.

 

Major criteria 3: The applicant must be in good academic standing.

 

Major criteria 4: The applicant must have completed the desired rotation with the College of Medicine during their clerkship years. For rotations such as Interventional Radiology and Dermatology, the applicant must complete all clerkship rotations to be eligible.

 

Major criteria 5: The applicant must have sat for and successfully passed their USMLE Step 1 exam.

 

Major criteria 6: The desired hands-on clinical rotation should be in a hospital setting with both in-patient and out-patient exposures. Observership experiences are not considered hands-on rotations.

 

Major criteria 7: The applicant must not have a negative evaluation in their Rotation Evaluation Form.

 

3.1.2. Minor Eligibility Criteria

 

Minor criteria 1: The applicant must have a CGPA of 3.75 or above at the time of application (latest transcript).

 

Minor criteria 2: The applicant must have sat for and successfully completed their USMLE Step 2 CK exam.

 

Minor criteria 3: The applicant must have sat for and successfully passed their SMLE exam.

 

Minor criteria 4: The applicant must have contributed significantly through volunteering activities of the Medical Students’ Association.

 

Minor criteria 5: The applicant must have at least one research publication in a PubMed indexed, peer-reviewed journal with Alfaisal affiliation.

 

Minor criteria 6: The applicant must have presented a research project at the Alfaisal Annual Research Day or any other research symposium/conference at least once.

 

Minor criteria 7: The applicant must have some form of teaching experience in medicine.

 

Minor criteria 8: The applicant must be in need of financial support.

 

 

3.2. Criteria for Second Funding

To be eligible for the second funding, there has to be a duration of a minimum of six months between the first and second funding. In order to apply for second funding, applicants must fulfill the criteria for first funding (as above) along with the below additional criteria.

 

3.2.1. Major Eligibility Criteria

Applicants must meet all major criteria to be considered eligible for funding. However, applicants will be advised that applying for funding and meeting all criteria does not mean funding is guaranteed and depends on the availability of funds.

     

Major criteria 1: The applicant must have sat for and successfully completed their USMLE Step 2 CK exam.

 

Major criteria 2: The applicant must have sat for and successfully passed their SMLE exam.

 

Major criteria 3: The applicant must have a CGPA of 3.75 or above at the time of application (latest transcript).

 

Major criteria 4: The applicant must have contributed significantly through volunteering activities of the Medical Students’ Association.

 

Major criteria 5: The applicant must have at least one research publication in a PubMed indexed, peer-reviewed journal with Alfaisal affiliation.

 

Major criteria 6: The applicant must have presented a research project at the Alfaisal Annual Research Day or any other research symposium/conference at least once.

 

Major criteria 7: The applicant must be in need of financial support.

 

Major criteria 8: There must be alignment between the applicant’s career pathway and the rotation for which funding is being requested.

(For example, the specialty of the rotation for second funding must be the same as the first specialty for which funding was awarded.)

 

3.2.2. Minor Eligibility Criteria

 

Minor criteria 1: The applicant must have sat for and successfully passed their OET exam.

 

Minor criteria 2: The applicant must have had been a board member of the Medical Students’ Association and served extensively during their term.

 

Minor criteria 3: The applicant must have some form of teaching experience in medicine.

FUNDING CYCLES

​

The funding is divided into 4 cycles per year which would be as follows:

     January - March

     April - June

     July - September

     October - December

 

Applications received during a cycle will be processed and evaluated for acceptance based on the available funds for that cycle only. Only the most eligible applicants shall be granted the funding for the said cycle. The remaining funding quota (if any) will be carried forward to the next funding cycle.

 

In cases where the funds for a cycle are exhausted, applicants who were eligible but not as strong as compared to other applicants in the pool will be advised to apply again in the next cycle. In addition, to be eligible for the second funding, there has to be a duration of a minimum of six months between the first and second funding.
